A sign out front of a local pet store declared,
we love puppies that is why we don’t sell them.
Debra Levy at C-Dog and Company inspired me to know and tell this SHOCKING truth…99% of puppies sold at pet stores come from puppy mills!
Did you know this? I did not.
ABC News researched and reported this percentage. They traveled to areas of the United States, which sell the most puppies. They observed and recorded the source of puppies in pet shops and pet stores.
In the USA, all puppies get classified as livestock. Most citizens and others outside of the USA who read know how poorly and inhumanely the majority of USA livestock tend to be treated. This accounts for the horrible abuse of puppy mill prisoners, the mother and father dogs.
The dogs live in their own filth. They live in cramped cages. They suffer illness with no medical treatment. They suffer anxiety, extreme fearfulness, and chew their own paws raw.
This is why the American Humane Society and all Humane societies fight puppy mills.
Please pass this on. Share it, copy and paste it.

Together, we can SAVE PUPPIES and DOGS!

“If you buy a puppy from a pet shop, you are not only supporting the cruel puppy mill industry, but you also run the risk of taking home a sick animal. Puppies sold in pet stores may suffer from a range of illnesses and conditions, ranging from respiratory infections including pneumonia, to hereditary defects like hip dysplasia and severe allergies. Through our No Pet Store Puppies campaign, the ASPCA urges people to pledge not to purchase anything, including pet supplies, in pet stores that sell puppies.” The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals “Fighting Cruelty
What more on this topic? I just googled and discovered a neat 10 point short post defining “puppy mills” plus giving information on a new a movie/DVD on this topic. Thank you for loving and protecting puppies and dogs,

PS. Even the director of a local animal shelter knew that 99% figure for pet shop puppies from puppy mills, yet she did not know that in the USA dogs are legally classified as livestock.

I feel the same about puppy mills. We had a dispute here what kind of breeders sell their pups to pet stores… the result was alarming… either the came from infamous puppy mills or back yard breeders… a shame …

Thanks.
So few know the facts or have walked inside a puppy mill.
According to veternarians, those people who buy from pet shops and backyard breeders, end up with sick dogs. One Vet went so far as to say how many of these expensive dogs had health problems. Her answer was 100% so save people the pain and save dogs’ lives by not even buy products, pet food, etc. from pet stores that sell puppies.

Such an important message, Deborah. One day, hopefully, puppy mills will be a thing of the past. Until then, I guess we’ll just have to give it the good fight. Your post certainly advances the cause!

I gave my customer card back to our pet food store because I read their ad for “christmas puppies”. It sadly was the only store in my area, but I rather buy my things online than in such a store.

Good for you. We do have choices plus our voices. We are lucky to have some local feed-stores that do not sell puppies.
Instead, Western Farms provides multiple bulletin boards where customers may post animal and farm business cards, posters of pets who need new homes and lost pet signs. Sometimes I’m surprised how very few breeders of dogs, actual pin flyers. I find that a very good thing.

I love your three points to ending puppy mills. Education is the first thing we must keep up. (Sorry to hear of your Internet problems, hope it all gets fixed soon.)
