Red Sky at Night:
Dog Leader Mysteries awarded five stars!
“smart, and compassionate“
“Red Sky at Night is a delightful read. Heroine Nevada California is an original, a twelve-year-old girl who is independent, smart, and compassionate. We see her courage in the novel’s first scene, as she climbs on top of a neighbor’s roof to fight a fire that threatens the animals inside the building. There is nothing stereotypical about Nevada: she is unique. The plot moves quickly and the minor characters are carefully differentiated, including Nevada’s school friends, who end up helping her solve the mystery of the multiple fires that have been set in this rural area. Her love for animals shines throughout the tale. I particularly liked Taylor-French’s attention to the details of the natural world: morning skies, beautiful trees and flowers, sweeping vistas. The novel’s end leads me to hope that Nevada will be back. I look forward to seeing her again.”
